The Cricket Pavilion, Widemouth Bay, Bude
About
If you're looking for something a bit different, with plenty of charm and character, this could be the ideal place for your next holiday. This unique property was formerly the cricket pavilion of the Hoe Grammar School in Plymouth. Relocated during the Second World War to its current location in Widemouth Bay (near Bude, Cornwall, UK), our family have been enjoying its sweet simplicity ever since.
Now configured as a detached bungalow with three bedrooms, it provides guests the opportunity to unplug and relax. Situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, and with an enclosed garden*, the property offers peace and privacy with the added bonus of the fabulous beach just minutes' walk away.
The building retains much of its cricket pavilion character, including double doors that open onto a wide veranda overlooking the generous front garden (14 m × 21 m). Although we have added essential modern touches over the years, the building's original single-ply wooden walls and roof are not insulated, so it is not let over the winter. It can get chilly on a clear night or overcast day, but the wood-burning stove and electric heaters will keep you cosy.
Three bedrooms sleep up to 6 adults – four single beds and one double. Please see the Gallery below for a floor plan and plenty of pictures

Open-plan living and dining area with wood-burning stove
Bathroom with over-bath shower. Separate WC. Extra wash basin in the double bedroom
A small but well-equipped kitchen with washing machine, fridge, electric oven and hob

* The garden is enclosed on three sides with wooden fencing (there is an "open-style" five-bar entrance gate in one of these), and by a sloped 3-foot earth bank and mixed hedgerow on the fourth side
Local attractions and amenities
Aside from the fabulous Widemouth Bay beach that offers everything from sand and surfing to rock pools, you will find several attractions and amenities nearby:
Fresh fish, fresh baked and general goods are available at the local shop a short walk away. If you do not want to shop straight away you can order online (in advance as they get busy) and have Waitrose deliver. Many good shops selling local produce, plus several supermarkets, are to be found in Bude. This includes the excellent refill shop, where you can buy a range of food and cleaning items by weight/volume, so you can get just what you need - you can bring your own containers, or buy containers at the shop.
Morwenstow, which has one of the best tea rooms in the country, is a short drive away. The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are an easy day trip.
Surfing lessons, horse riding, tennis, bowling, a sea-pool and indoor pool are available locally.
